Introduction to AI for Healthcare Leaders
Target learners
Physician leaders and healthcare administrators who are not AI experts but who must make decisions about whether and how AI is used in the provision of care, operations, and administrative work in their organizations.
Course purpose
- Help participants build a practical understanding of what AI is (including machine learning and generative AI) and where it is already affecting healthcare delivery and operations, without turning them into technical AI specialists.
- Support them in developing greater confidence and capability as evaluators and decision-makers about AI in healthcare — able to ask the right questions about safety, quality, equity, workforce impact, and value when AI tools are proposed or implemented.
- Help them recognize and begin to use AI as a leadership tool and thought partner in their own work (for example, communication, strategy, change leadership) while respecting privacy, ethics, and role boundaries.
- Encourage them to reflect on and shift their attitudes and feelings about AI in healthcare, from initial reactions to a more informed, balanced stance that supports thoughtful adoption and governance.
- Provide a curated set of next-step learning resources (courses and readings) so that participants can choose appropriate pathways for deeper learning aligned with their role, interests, and time.
